ROGER LIPSEY

Roger Lipsey's new book, Hammarskjöld: A Life, was published in March 2013, by the University of Michigan Press. The first major biography of Hammarskjöld in forty years, it is a thorough reinterpretation that has been welcomed with unreserved appreciation by early readers in the United States, Sweden, and Great Britain. Roger's most recent book is the prize-winning Angelic Mistakes: The Art of Thomas Merton (2006). He has been writing from time to time on Dag Hammarskjöld for twenty years, reading him for many more years than that, and lately giving public talks. Following the model of one of his most important mentors, Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, Roger started from a home ground in art history (Ph.D., The Institute of Fine Arts, New York University) and—without abandoning that good home ground—explores many topics in culture and spirituality.
